The Wahine, The Big Kahuna and The Little Kahuna head off to Maui, Hawaii for a week of sun fun and adventure! Joining us on this epic journey is Laura's sister Carol's family with Husband Wayne and their children Austin and Jessica. It is really easy to get to Hawaii when you live in the Bay Area, it is just one easy flight from San Francisco to Kahului. Ross was really good on both the flight going to Maui and on the flight coming home, he really enjoyed looking out the window with Craig.
We stayed at The Whaler at Kaanapali Beach, it is a great Hotel and it is on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Our lanai (Hawaiian for balcony) had beautiful views of both the mountains and the ocean. We had breakfast on it every morning and we watched spectacular sunsets on it every night while drinking the obligatory MaiTais.
As usual we wandered around the historic whaling town of Lahaina. In Lahaina is a Banyon Tree that covers the entire town square. Of course we had to dress Ross up in a little Hawaiian outfit and take him to Cheeseburgers in Paradise for dinner.
Of course there where lots of water sports as well, Ross and Craig got a little surfing in and we all spent a lot time hanging out at the pool. Ross' little cousin Jessica even learned how to snorkel! We frolicked at the beach, splashed around in the ocean and did plenty of snorkeling , all in shark infested water! Ross even found the time for a little snooze on the beach!
One day we went to the Maui Ocean Center where we saw lots of different type of fish including great big sting rays. Ross really had a great time looking at all the sea life in all the aquariums.
Our little guy Ross turned one year old in Maui so we had a little birthday party for him. We bar-b-queued steaks and had dinner by the beach. The tired little guy fell asleep half way through dinner. He woke up in time to open all his gifts and eat his birthday cake!
On the morning of our second last day, we all took a boat trip out to the atoll Molokini to do some snorkeling. We put Ross in a life jacket, stuck him on a boogie board and threw him in the water. We took turns floating with him while the other snorkeled about . We saw lots of beautiful and interesting fish and many Green Sea Turtles. I even saw a shark while swimming about . A great time was had by all!
That evening we got all dressed up and went to a luau. Carol and Jessica got on stage to learn the hula while the men folks learned how to open a coconut. We had another spectacular sunset that night. The food was excellent with Kalua Pork as the main dish. And the show was fantastic with dances and songs from different Polynesian islands. Of course, Ross really enjoyed the evening.
All good things must come to an end, so sadly we packed up our stuff and flew home.
